Successful cross-functional teams have a clearly defined overall mission and goals that reflect the specific purpose for which the team's existence. This clear and compelling view serves as a focal point of effort for the team. One of the most often named reasons for team failure is a lack of goal alignment within the team, and with the chartering authority.

 

Clarifying and Testing XFT Mission/Goals

Task: Write your understanding of the team's mission and key sub-goals--the reason for the team's existence. A brief, concise statement which provides focus and direction that is specific enough to inform others of the unique purpose of the team and guide decision making of the team members. What, for whom, so that . . .?
Specific enough?
